Beast Type: Dragon

Description: Huge, scaled, spiky-headed. Twice mistaken for a slate hillside. Noble and strong, able to carry great weights on his back. Hatched from an egg 288 years before Tom began his Beast Quests. Great magical forces created him to guard the Winding River.

Problems caused while enchanted: Farms burned, river dried up.

Location and Regular function in Kingdom: The South-western region of Avantia - in a cave by the Winding River. Protects the water supply to Avantia's farms. In winter, he uses his hot breath to prevent the people of Avantia becoming too cold, and protects the people from invaders.

Enchanted by: A magical collar.

Spell broken by/ with: A long golden key given to Tom by Aduro.

Leaves behind: A scale, which protects Tom from all kinds of heat.

Beast Type: Sea serpent

Description: Thick, almost impenetrable scales, pale icy eyes, actually very beautiful. First swam 261 years ago, was as small as a dolphin and loved to race with his friends. Now enjoys his duty of protecting Avantia but also misses playing games.

Problems caused while enchanted: Causes tidal waves, attacks fishing boats, eats (or scares away?) all the fish.

Location and Regular function in Kingdom: Keeps the sea under control and full of fish, protects the fish from sharks. Protects the fishermen and guides them to safety in rough weather.

Enchanted by: A magical chain binding him to a rocky island.

Spell broken by/ with: Tom picks the lock with his sword.

Leaves behind: A tooth, which protects Tom from onrushing water.

Beast Type: Giant

Description: Huge and muscly, gnarled hands ending in yellow claws, a mouth full of crooked teeth. One eye, taller than a big tree, very very strong but also clumsy at times. His mother was a Mountain Giant who protected the North of Avantia and he learnt from her and eventually took over her duties.

Problems caused while enchanted: Avalanches (caused by temporary blindness).

Location and Regular function in Kingdom: In the Northern Mountains, at the Place of Eagles. Protects trader town from avalanches, keeps the mountain pass open, protects villages from rockfalls and guides the mountain wolf cubs.

Enchanted by: A blindfold he cannot remove which makes him stumble and cause avalanches.

Spell broken by/ with: Tom unties the blindfold.

Leaves behind: The feather of an eagle, which will save Tom from great falls.

Beast Type: Centaur

Description: Half-man, half-horse, and bigger than a normal horse - makes huge hoofprints. Black eyes, tangled black hair. Faster than the fastest stallion. 406 years old. Used to be more human-looking, but as the Beasts became less known he became more Beastly and people were scared of him. He was forced to hide out in the plains.

Problems caused while enchanted: Makes cattle stampede and sets fire to the plains.

Location and Regular function in Kingdom: The central plains. Protects cattle from predators. Keeps the hyenas under control.

Enchanted by: A magical horseshoe that causes him to do bad things.

Spell broken by/ with: Tom uses his sword to loosen and remove the shoe.

Leaves behind: A piece of the horseshoe, which gives Tom the gift of speed.

Beast Type: Snow Monster

Description: Long white fur, ivory claws, sharp yellow fangs. Blood red eyes when enchanted which turn to blue when the enchantment’s broken. Born from snow 335 years ago, one of the most well known Beasts of Avantia. Used to be small and playful, friends with snow wolves and bears, but when she grew up they became scared of her and eventually she left to fulfill her destiny as a Beast.

Problems caused while enchanted: Freak blizzards and sudden thaws in the ice, more predators attacking villagers.

Location and Regular function in Kingdom: The Icy Plains, in a valley beyond the nomad camp. Protects local villagers from predators so they can harvest their special herbs to make medicine. Protects people from avalanches.

Enchanted by: A magical bell around her neck which keeps her awake and stops her hibernating, which makes her extremely grumpy.

Spell broken by/ with: Tom breaks the chain keeping the bell around her neck with his sword.

Leaves behind: The enchanted bell, which gives Tom protection from extreme cold.

Beast Type: Phoenix

Description: Huge bird, massive glittery wings, sets fire to anything she touches, can form and throw fireballs. 467 years old and oldest of all the Beasts. Can be re-born out of fire and ashes.

Problems caused while enchanted: The dormant volcano erupts – also actively attacks Tom and Elenna.

Location and Regular function in Kingdom: Marshalls the volcano, makes sure it doesn’t erupt and keeps a lookout for invaders.

Enchanted by: A golden band on her leg.

Spell broken by/ with: Tom tears it off with Taladon's gauntlet (which has been imbued with special powers by Tom's belief in his father, thus breaking Malvel’s evil spells).

Leaves behind: A talon, which allows Tom's shield to heal his wounds.
